The annual Diversity Visa program begins its registration period for 2014 on October 2, 2012 at noon. The registration period only lasts for 30 days so it is important to file immediately.

The Diversity Visa 2014 is a congressionally mandated program administered by the United States Department of State that makes 50,000 permanent residency visas available to people from countries that do not have large numbers of immigrants coming to America.

Unlike other visa categories—such as green cards through employment, green cards through family or green cards for refugees—the Diversity Visa has relatively few requirements. Potential applicants need only to demonstrate that the country they are claiming for eligibility is not on the list of countries that have high-volume U.S.-bound migration and that they meet certain education or work requirements. A high school degree or two years of experience in a job that required two years of training fulfill the education or work requirement.

A green card is a United States immigration document that indicates that the holder is a permanent resident of America. Permanent resident status allows an individual to work and live in the United States legally. Green card holders are also allowed to leave and enter the country at will for short periods of time without losing their claim to live and work in the United States.

Countries not considered eligible for Diversity Visa 2014 are Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Mainland China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea, the United Kingdom and its dependents except the North Ireland region, and Vietnam.

When the State Department considers the selection of Diversity Visa winners no more than seven per cent of the total available visas will be granted to residents of one particular country or region. The winners of the Diversity Visa 2014 will be announced on May 1, 2013.

After the winners of the Diversity Visa have been announced you may check whether or not you have won through our website, USAGreenCardLottery.org, or through the State Department.

USAGreenCardLottery.org ensures that your entry is error free and will help you track its status during the year. Register for the Diversity Visa 2014 on October 2!
